Human and Animal Rights
If a submitted manuscript involves the use of live human subjects or animals authors must provide a statement indicating compliance with the institution’s Institutional Review Board (IRB) and/or the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). These statements should be included in the material and methods section of the manuscript. Clinical Laboratory Science supports ethical and appropriate use of human subjects and animals in compliance with national and international laws governing the ethical conduct of research.
Animal Care Requirements for Research Work
Animal Welfare Assurance
No activity involving animals may be conducted or supported by institutions or granting agencies until the institution conducting the activity has provided a written assurance acceptable to the Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW) or similar international entity and has received approval from a qualified institutional entity such as the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
In order to approve proposed research projects or proposed significant changes in ongoing research projects, the IACUC shall conduct a review of those components related to the care and use of animals and determine that the proposed research projects are in accordance with this Policy. In making this determination, the IACUC shall confirm that the research project will be conducted in accordance with the Animal Welfare Act insofar as it applies to the research project, and that the research project is consistent with the Guide unless acceptable justification for a departure is presented.
